In general, the LNG industry has an excellent safety record. Globally, there are 17 LNG export liquefaction terminals, 40 import (re-gasification) terminals, and 145 LNG ships, totally handling approximately 115 million metric tons of LNG every year. Over 40 years, LNG has been safely delivered across the oceans, during which there have been over 33,000 LNG carrier voyages, covering more than 60 million miles, without major accidents or safety problems either in port or on the high seas. LNG carriers commonly transit through high traffic density areas.
